As Charles put it, there are worse things to suck at in life than golf. In fact, Sir Charles has managed to turn bad golf into a comedic art form. If watching Chuck stink at golf (while having a great time on the green) is your idea of fun, don’t miss his 17th appearance in the upcoming must-see celebrity golf tournament: the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe.

The 22nd annual American Century Championship gets underway on Tuesday, July 12th at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Barkley will show off his infamous swing in the 54-hole tourney alongside some of the biggest current and former professional athletes, entertainers and politicians. The 80-plus celebrity golfers include Michael Jordan, David Wells, John Smoltz, John Elway, Ray Romano, Marshall Faulk, Tony Romo, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Tim Tebow, Jack Wagner, Rick Rhoden and Andy Pettitte – to name just a few. Visit the official tournament Web site at www.tahoecelebritygolf.com.

In 2010 Barkley finished with -93 points, good for last place in the 82-player field for the fifth straight year. This time around he and fellow long shot Kevin Nealon are listed in the books at 500-1 to win. But Chuck has a few new shots up his golf shirtsleeve and may even play lefty. Will a left-handed swing help Barkley ditch his hitch and put an end to his losing streak? Tune in on Friday, July 15 to see Barkley and company tee off in the First Round on Versus from 4-7 PM ET. NBC Sports will televise the Second and Final Rounds live on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th from 3-6 PM ET.

  1. Chris says:

It is truly a great thing to watch Charles Barkley play golf, not for the reasons of watching somebody fail at something, but to see somebody having fun doing something and not caring what people say or think. There’s no doubt in anybodies mind that Charles is nothing close to tiger woods, however he gets it, the point of playing golf is to enjoy playing the game and the scenery. As long as you have fun and aren’t causing harm to others by your actions, that’s all that matters.
